EMMA LARSSON

The work of Emma Larsson is characterized by the free and intuitive use of watercolor. Her compositions explore organic, dynamic forms inspired by nature, color, and movement. Larsson works without prior planning, allowing gesture and intuition to guide each piece. Her spontaneous approach results in artworks that stand out for their freshness, vitality, and distinctive visual language.

ABOUT

Emma Larsson is a visual artist born in Sweden in 1977. From an early age, she was fortunate to have her own art studio, a space where she could create and express herself freely, beyond the limits of language. She currently lives and works in Stockholm, where she resides with her husband and their five children.

Although she spent several years in art school exploring drawing, painting, and sculpture, Larsson considers herself primarily self-taught, an outsider who continually experiments with diverse materials. She is a creative explorer whose work remains in constant evolution. Her artistic language can be described as poetic, playful, contemplative, intuitive, and intriguing.

For Larsson, painting is an act of uninhibited play, free from intellectualization. Her creation arises from an energetic flow shaped by memories of nature and a profound sense of freedom. Nothing is predetermined; every gesture is intuitive. She describes her process as a synergy between the artist, the material, and an unknown presence she refers to as a “force.” Her practice is instinctual rather than analytical, guided by pleasure and spontaneity. Beginning with a blank sheet of paper, she follows the movement as it unfolds. In her spare time, she walks through the untouched forests surrounding her city, finding inspiration in nature’s shapes, colors, and patterns, which translate into the abstract and dynamic forms present in her work.

In recent years, Larsson has gained international recognition, attracting the attention of art critics and distinguished collectors, including the Frederick Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs across Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Japan, and South Korea. She has collaborated across various mediums with notable brands such as Soho House London, H&M/COS, Rachel Comey, Artpieces, ShowStudio (Nick Knight and Bex Cassie), Mortimer House London, Anamika Khanna, among others. Her art has appeared in numerous publications, including Wrap Magazine, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, WePresent by WeTransfer, Women’s Health USA, REVS Magazine, and Chor Data Magazine USA.

Throughout her career, Larsson has participated in multiple group exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and Asia. In September 2022, she presented her first solo exhibition, Percussion Dream, with Simard Bilodeau Contemporary in Los Angeles, followed by a second solo exhibition in 2023 at Galerie DYES in Brussels. Her works have also been showcased at renowned events such as LA Art Show (2021, 2022, 2023), Luxembourg Art Week 2021, Art on Paper NY 2022, Art Market Hamptons 2022, Art on Paper Brussels 2022, Drawing Now Art Fair Paris 2022, and Future Fair 2024 in New York City.
