GABRIELA ROSADO

Yucatán is a territory deeply connected to Gabriela Rosado’s family history and artistic memory. In her series Naj, Taanaj, Otoch. La casa en la piedra, the traditional Maya house becomes more than an architectural form: it is a place of memory, identity and belonging, inseparable from the landscape that surrounds it.

Through architecture, limestone, vegetation, light and territory, Rosado establishes a dialogue between ancestral knowledge and contemporary experience. After almost three decades living in Europe, her work approaches her Mexican roots not through nostalgia, but through recognition: the understanding that the places we inhabit also continue to inhabit us.

ABOUT

Gabriela Rosado was born in Mexico City. She began her artistic career training as a classical dancer and later joined the international Theater Frederik company in Belgium as an actress-dancer, working professionally on tours throughout Mexico, the United States, Spain, and Israel.

In 1985, she redirected her training toward the visual arts and graduated in 1990 from the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico.

Since 1998, she has alternated periods living in Portugal and Spain with her family, residing in Barcelona, Cascais, and Madrid. Since then, she has developed her life and artistic practice between Mexico and Europe.

She has participated in 20 solo exhibitions and 62 group exhibitions in public and private spaces, art fairs, and museums across the United States, Switzerland, France, Monaco, Portugal, Spain, and Mexico. She was selected for the V Diego Rivera Drawing Biennial and participated in FEMACO, the Mexico Contemporary Art Fair.

She has held solo exhibitions at MAQRO, Museum of Art of Querétaro, where her work is part of the permanent collection, and MACAY, Museum of Contemporary Art Ateneo de Yucatán, Mexico. Her work has also been presented in solo exhibitions at the Embassy of Mexico in Portugal, the Instituto Cultural de México en España (ICME), Embassy of Mexico in Spain, and the Consulate of Mexico in Barcelona, among others.
