PASCALE FOURNIER
The act of weaving thus becomes an act of connection between the human, the animal, and the vegetal, a way of intertwining the ephemeral and the permanent, the territory and memory. Using organic elements such as bark, branches, and fibers, Pascale creates weavings that not only materialize the landscape but also reinterpret it.
In this collection, the loom becomes an extension of both body and environment. Each thread is a lifeline, each fabric an emotional cartography. Pascale Fournier weaves to capture the instant and transform it into living matter, tracing temporal and geographic ties that remind us of our belonging to the earth and the profound interdependence among all beings.
ABOUT
Pascale Fournier was born in Malden, Boston, United States. She has lived in Andalucia, Argentina, Mexico, Cameroon, and France — experiences that have deeply shaped her sensitivity to the earth, color, and the cultural identity embedded in traditional textiles.
Her artistic journey began in the 1980s within the theater world, where she worked as a set and costume designer in renowned French theaters alongside figures such as Philippe and Patrice Kerbrat and playwright Yasmina Reza. Fascinated by the theater’s ability to transform text into a three-dimensional experience, she transferred this sensibility to her studio practice, where clay became her expressive medium.
Since then, Fournier’s work has centered on experimenting with materials such as ceramics, plaster, paint, and textiles, delving into processes of rupture and repair reminiscent of kintsugi. Her creations reveal a constant dialogue between fragility and resilience, life and transformation.
In 2017, during a residency in Mexico, Fournier incorporated textiles as a sculptural language, establishing a profound connection between thread and earth. Later, in 2020, she trained in the art of weaving with master weaver Patrick Guerrier and, during her residency at Monde Nouveau, developed the concept “Weaving the Instant, Weaving the Landscape,” a poetic reflection on the connection between the human, the vegetal, and the animal through the act of weaving.
Today, Pascale Fournier continues to develop her practice between ceramics and textiles, creating works and installations that explore memory, time, and the invisible threads that bind us to matter and to our environment.
