RAINER LAGEMANN

Rainer Lagemann’s works capture the silhouettes of the human body in motion and its universal capacity for self-expression. The stainless steel squares used to sculpt the figures, together with the hollow framework of the forms, represent the intellectual capacity, emotional range, physical strength, and spiritual dimension of each individual. The shadows these sculptures cast on the floors or walls of the spaces they inhabit lend each piece an additional layer of beauty, abstraction, and mystery.

ABOUT

Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1959, Rainer Lagemann is a contemporary sculptor renowned for his representations of the human body in motion through geometric metal structures. His work explores the duality between strength and delicacy, inviting viewers to reflect on the energy, expression, and spirituality inherent to the human being.

With a background in Interior Architecture and Design from FH Detmold in Germany, Lagemann developed a successful career in design before discovering his true artistic calling. It was during his years in California, in 2005, that an experimental approach to welding sparked a passion that would completely transform his professional path. Since then, metal has become his medium of expression, allowing him to shape a contemporary reinterpretation of classical sculpture.

His works, composed of hollow stainless steel squares, seek to capture the essence of the human body in action—whether swimming, practicing yoga, running, or climbing—while simultaneously expressing the intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions of each individual. The lightness of the structures, along with the shadows they cast in the spaces they inhabit, adds an additional layer of abstraction, beauty, and mystery to each piece.

Lagemann’s work has been exhibited internationally in galleries, art fairs, museums, cultural centers, hotels, and even churches. Among the institutions that have showcased his art are Nikola Rukaj Gallery (Toronto), Ode to Art Gallery (Singapore), and DTR Modern Galleries (Boston, New York, Washington D.C., and Palm Beach). He has also collaborated with curators and public institutions on commissioned projects, driven by his belief that public art enriches spaces and strengthens the bond between communities and culture.

Rainer Lagemann continues to explore art’s ability to reveal the connection between the physical and the spiritual, transforming metal into a universal language of movement, balance, and humanity.
