Conociendo a Sharon Kopriva
For more than thirty years, Sharon Kopriva has worked in both two and three-dimensional media.
Her career has taken her through investigations of pre-Columbian cultures in Peru and her own personal examination of her Catholic faith.
More recently, works have been inspired by the spiritual light of green forests in the beautiful Pacific Northwest of the United States where Kopriva has been spending summers.
Works in this exhibition are a blending of the Northwest and the Southern “thicket” woods that Sharon has known since childhood. They are more structural than before and have become a fusion of her two and three-dimensional pieces.
Sharon has continually exhibited her art since its inauguration in the Fresh Paint exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1985. She has shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Unites States and internationally. Important survey exhibitions include: The Menil Museum, Houston in 2000; National Museum of Peru, Lima in 2006; The Ogden Museum, New Orleans in 2012. Her exhibitions in Mexico include Memento Mori, a group exhibition in Mexico City in 1986; a solo exhibition in Museo de La Ciudad, Queretaro in 2009; a solo exhibition in Museo Metropolitano de Monterrey in 2015.
Kopriva, a Texas native, currently works in Houston, Texas and Hope, Idaho. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the University of Houston in 1981.
